What is an Exercise Physiologist?
- An Accredited Exercise Physiologist, or AEP, is a highly trained allied health professional, specialising in exercise therapy, disease education and lifestyle/behaviour modification to treat, manage and rehabilitate acute, subacute and chronic injuries or diseases, while also optimising quality of life and performance.
- In Australia, AEP's are the most qualified professionals in fitness, exercise and human movement.

How does an AEP differ from a Physio?
- An AEP uses therapeutic exercise, disease education and lifestyle/behaviour modification to treat acute, subacute and chronic complex injuries and diseases.
- A Physio may use manual therapy, and limited exercise prescription to treat musculoskeletal disorders and some chronic health conditions. Physio's may also diagnose some musculoskeletal disorders.

How does an AEP differ from a Personal Trainer?
- An AEP is an allied health professional that has completed a 4 year (or equivalent) university bachelor's degree, learning how exercise and physical activity can treat and manage acute, subacute and chronic complex health conditions and diseases.
- An AEP also undergoes extensive training to facilitate behaviour change and lifestyle modification to enhance quality of life, so individuals may better reach their goals and map out their lives.
- When seeing an AEP you may claim Medicare, Private Health, WorkCover and/or NDIS funding, where applicable.
- PT's are primarily privately (personally funded) and occasionally funded by NDIS.

Should I see an EP or a PT?
- Personal training is an excellent way to incorporate exercise into your routine! Although, if you're experiencing any niggles, injuries, have a health/medical condition or simply want to optimise your performance or progress, you may likely need the expertise of an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
Can I see an AEP if I have a health condition or injury?
- Yes! AEP's are fully equipped to treat and manage a vast range of medical and health conditions.
